A few months ago our dear friend Kelly Whaley was unexpectedly diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer. Within two months of her diagnosis, she passed away, leaving behind her 4-year-old son, Gunner. Kelly was a huge talent in our industry and though many didn’t know, she was also deeply rooted in the rock music scene and had a passion for special effects makeup. A group of 19 of us from the fashion community wanted to put together an event that would honor Kelly and embody her four greatest passions: Gunner, fashion, music, and Halloween. Since she was a single mother who always gave without ever expecting anything in return, we wanted to make sure that her son, her greatest pride and joy, is taken care of and her creative legacy will live on. Thus, Friscovania was born!Through our collective efforts, we’ve partnered up with FC Dallas, who is graciously donating their venue and taking care of the back-end expenses (ticketing, security, and merchandising). Our charitable partner is City House of Collin County. Their mission is to provide emergency shelter and transitional residential services to children and young adults who are in need due to abuse, neglect, or homelessness. They plan to do a straight 50/50 split of all proceeds from the event for Gunner and offer their services to him as well. We’ve also partnered with the City of Frisco, which has designated this event The Mayor’s Safe Trick-Or-Treat Zone. The Mayor Maher Maso and his wife Cindy Maso are our honorary hosts. They’ll be known as the Count and Countess of Friscovania. The event will be Saturday, October 22, with tons of activities for both children and adults. From 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. there will be trick-or-treating, face painting, and a haunted carnival for kids. Then, from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., there will be live rock music with a haunted fashion show during the headlining performance. This high-production show will highlight our incredible local hair and makeup team and feature famed designer, Nha Khanh’s latest creations. Other surprise designers will be announced in the next few weeks.To give you an idea of the layout, you enter Friscovania through the West Gate at Toyota Stadium, and waltz on through the Winstar River Club, which we’ll refer to as the Witches Brew. Here you can boo-gie to the sounds of some of Nashville’s finest young musical talent. But if you need a little VIP TLC, head on over to the El Jimador Terrace, which we’ll call Vlad’s VIP Lounge. Gloss Luxury Rentals will provide decadent furniture to recline on while you sink your fangs into some mouthwatering morsels by Legends Catering. Not ready to put an end to this hauntingly good time? Step onto the black carpet where it’s time for Frights! Camera! Action! Our Step & Repeat will be run by renowned fashion photographers. This will be a fright to remember! Or just trick-or-treat your way through the haunted carnival, where you’re sure to get your scream on until dusk, when things really get spooky. You can slip down to the Budweiser Beer Garden’s main stage, which we’ll call The Boneyard, for some undead entertainment filled with models, monsters, and music. Don’t forget to wear a fun costume and you might just win a spooktacular prize. Baylor Celebrating Women-Celebrating Women is known as the premier breast cancer luncheon for the Dallas-Fort Worth area. It brings together 150 dedicated committee members and more than 1,200 supporters each year to increase awareness and generate funding for breast cancer research, diagnosis and treatment.
