Don't Get Burned: Sunscreen Tips!

The summer season is officially in full swing. Who doesn't love this time of year? However, you can’t forget that the sun's rays can damage your skin and be the fastest way to bring on signs of aging. We know it's hard to stay out of the sun, so here are a few tips for you!

Hats: Whether you are out in the sun for a couple of minutes or hours, hats are a great way to protect your skin. Everyone believes if you wear any hat you are protected, but this is not the case! A large brim hat with 50 spf made within/inside the hat is a must!  Some hats do not protect your face, neck and décolleté.  Hats that are thinly woven or straw based do NOT protect you! Here are some hats we approve:02233_4007_1 02246_236_1 02315_232_1Sunscreens: Did you know there are two types of sunscreens? Physical and Chemical. Chemical sunscreens have more UVA protection than physical. This is mainly because this sunscreen is much more absorbent, whereas physical sunscreen is like a shell and deflects the sun rays. Physical sunscreen is better for sensitive skin. Also, every sunscreen has a different level of protection against those harmful UVB rays. Contrary to popular belief, SPF 50 versus 30 doesn't mean greater protection overall, but it does protect you more from ultravoilet waves.

Moisturizer: Skip the makeup with SPF! If there is SPF in your moisturizer, it is more than likely that the level of protection is decreased since it will be diluted. Ditch the dual moisturizer, and apply them separately.

Application: We saved the most important tip for last! It's so vital to reapply your sunscreen throughout the day. Just because you applied sunscreen in the morning doesn't mean you will be protected all day. Read the application instructions for optimal protection on the sunscreen’s label.
