Father's Day Gift Ideas-Black Owned Business!

We had decided to take a break from all social media last week to listen, reflect, and learn. This is a pivotal time and we must keep this momentum going. There are hundreds of ways to keep your attention where it’s needed, and today we are going to share there are endless small ways to contribute. If you are on the hunt for a Father’s Day gift then we are going to share ideas from Black-owned businesses. Also, as many small brands and those founded by Black, Indigenous, and People Of Color (BIPOC) are affected by the Covid-19 crisis, investing in them can make a big difference.

Simple DIY Foaming Soap!

Image: handmadehoosier

Image: handmadehoosier

We just found a great DIY for you to do at home! It’s the perfect FIY and it only takes about 5 minutes.

Supplies:

  • Soap dispenser

  • Castile soap - Dr. Bronner's unscented is the one we used, but use whatever soap you like. Ratio: 4 tablespoons for a 16 oz. soap dispenser.

  • Water

  • Funnel

  • Measuring spoons

  • Essential oils - We used 10 drops each of grapefruit and lemon and it smells so fresh!

Directions:

  1. Pour the soap into your soap dispenser.

  2. Add essential oils.

  3. Fill up the remainder of the soap dispenser with filtered water.

  4. Put on the soap dispenser lid and shake it all up.

How You Can Help Others During This Time!

1. Donate to nonprofits helping to respond to COVID-19—and your other favorite causes as well.

2. Your voice is powerful—use it to help individuals and organizations. We highly suggest you to call your local senators to help the restaurant industry. They need your help so much.

3. Buy gift cards for your local business owners. They need your help to survive!

4. Check on your neighbors!

5. Try to not  to waste food. As we all should try practicing this all the time, however, this time is even more critical. Repurpose leftovers! There are tons of chef’s sharing how to do that!

6. Give blood! As the novel coronavirus continues to spread, we can expect to see a decrease in those eligible (and willing) to donate blood.

7. Remember those who are still on the front lines. Once we're on the other side of this crisis, we're going to have a whole lot of people to thank. Grocery store clerks, nurses and doctors, police officers and firefighters, the people who work at the laundromat, sanitation workers, delivery people, teachers who taught our kids virtually, and more. We may not be able to do much right now, but start brainstorming how you can help them in the near future. Call those who are on the front lines and see if you can send them food, water, etc. Tip your driver heavily!

8. Take care of yourself. It’s really hard to get wrapped up in a lot of media and news. Do your best to unplug as much as you can. It’s good for your mental headspace.

9. Seniors! Check on them. If you have a family member in a facility, respect the rules.

10. Stay HOME!
